As a Physics with Space Science student, you'll gain a deep understanding of modern physics principles and learn to apply mathematical, computational, and experimental techniques to solve real-world challenges, while developing expertise in space science. Our Physics program shares a common foundation across all students, covering essential physics and mathematics concepts aligned with the Institute of Physics (IOP) core curriculum. This foundational knowledge encompasses classical mechanics, wave phenomena, electromagnetic fields, special relativity, thermodynamics, and quantum/atomic physics. Opting for the Space Science specialization allows you to explore these core subjects while engaging with specialized space science modules and participating in research projects focused on key areas of space science and technology. Our institution boasts one of Europe's most extensive campus-based space research facilities, and your space science coursework will directly reflect our active research initiatives. These include significant contributions to the BepiColombo Mercury mission and the development of detection systems for satellites such as the groundbreaking US-UK-Italian collaborative project 'Swift', an extraordinary space observatory dedicated to investigating the universe's most energetic cosmic phenomena.
