Backed by an extensive network of art museum and gallery experts, our Art Museum and Gallery Studies program redefines traditional museum studies. This specialized course concentrates exclusively on art institutions throughout its curriculum. It acknowledges that art museums and galleries represent a unique category of cultural organizations, better analyzed alongside similar art-focused entities (such as biennials, art fairs, and kunsthalles) rather than general heritage sites. The program equally emphasizes traditional collection-based museums and modern contemporary art spaces. We strive to equip students for diverse careers in the art world while providing a comprehensive understanding of today's art landscape. Since its establishment in 1966, the University of Leicester's Museum Studies program has maintained global leadership in this discipline. As one of the world's few independent museum studies departments, it pioneered the Art Museum and Gallery Studies program and houses CRA - a groundbreaking research initiative focused on art institutions.
