As a doctoral candidate, you'll undertake original research with supervision, participating in regular progress reviews and creating a tailored training plan to ensure you develop the necessary expertise for your project.
Thai Studies has formed a core component of East Asian Studies since 2004. Dr. Martin Seeger, a former Buddhist monk ordained in the 1990s who now heads research in this discipline, was honored with the Royal Decoration of the Fifth Class of the Most Admirable Order of the Direkgunabhorn in 2013. This recognition celebrates his contributions to fostering cultural understanding between Thailand and the UK. Research focuses include Thai Buddhist history, modern Buddhist movements and their societal impacts, as well as theological debates within Thai Buddhism.
