The Healthcare Mechatronics Lab creates and implements mechatronic and robotic solutions to tackle contemporary healthcare issues, leveraging Leeds' interdisciplinary research ecosystem. Our work concentrates on pioneering engineering innovations across three key domains: Sensing Technology, Soft Robotics/Systems, and Medical Devices. Through close collaboration with medical experts, we apply these specialties to solve problems in fields such as minimally invasive procedures, cardiac support, orthopedic devices, worldwide health initiatives, and continence care. The Healthcare Mechatronics team emerged from a longstanding partnership between the School of Mechanical Engineering and Leeds Institute of Medical Research. Our studies are inherently cross-disciplinary, combining top-tier engineering knowledge with the exceptional medical research facilities at Leeds NHS Teaching Hospitals Trust (LTHT). This robust alliance provides significant advantages, enabling us to collaborate effectively with healthcare practitioners across Leeds and other regions.
