We focus on key phenomena that shape weather and climate patterns. Our research explores essential scientific principles that form the foundation of atmospheric science. These investigations have practical implications for extreme weather events (such as intense rainfall and powerful storms) and broader climate studies. Our approach combines dynamic systems and cloud research, fostering strong collaborations with other teams in the Institute.
Atmospheric dynamics research examines air currents ranging from local to planetary scales, particularly in climatically sensitive regions worldwide. We study diverse physical processes including mountain weather systems, gravity wave phenomena, thunderstorm development, cyclone formation, turbulent boundary layers, coastal ocean dynamics, and interactions between air and sea surfaces.
