Pursuing a research degree in the Faculty of Biological Sciences allows you to cultivate expertise as an autonomous investigator in your selected discipline. Guided by your principal supervisor and additional co-supervisors, you'll conduct pioneering investigations into specific biological challenges while joining an extensive network of researchers employing interdisciplinary methods to address contemporary scientific inquiries. During your doctoral studies, you'll not only enhance your specialized research capabilities but also acquire new competencies through structured training initiatives, seminar participation, and conference engagements.
Biotechnology represents a vast field that harnesses biological mechanisms, living systems, cellular structures, or molecular components to create innovative technologies. The resulting advancements find applications across scientific exploration, agricultural practices, manufacturing processes, and medical treatments. Within the School of Molecular and Cellular Biology, our academic programs (particularly the BSc Biotechnology with Enterprise and MSc Biopharmaceutical Development) and research initiatives encompass the full spectrum of biotechnological applications. Our work ranges from employing plant systems, microorganisms, or viral vectors as experimental platforms to enhancing therapeutic biologics and applying synthetic biology techniques for industrial innovation.
