This one-year program focuses entirely on independent research, where you'll conduct a project and document your findings in a thesis. Like a PhD, you'll work with a supervisor specializing in your selected discipline. The MSc by Research enhances both theoretical and hands-on abilities, making it ideal if you want to delve deeper into your subject without committing to a doctoral program. Graduates frequently progress to PhD studies or industry roles.
Viruses are parasitic entities that invade organisms across all biological domains. Within the Faculty of Biological Sciences, we conduct foundational studies on pathogenic viruses affecting humans and animals, applying these insights to advance healthcare and food safety. Our research spans diverse areas such as viral replication mechanisms, cancer-causing viruses, immune responses to infections, viral architecture, and therapeutic/vaccine development. Current investigations target hepatitis viruses, picornaviruses, emerging arboviruses (including Chikungunya and Zika), and tumor-associated DNA viruses like Kaposi's Sarcoma herpesvirus, human papillomavirus, and polyomaviruses.
