This one-year program focuses exclusively on independent research, requiring you to complete a project and produce a thesis based on your findings. Like doctoral studies, you'll work with a supervisor specializing in your selected discipline. The MSc by Research enhances both theoretical and applied competencies, serving as an ideal pathway for those wanting to delve deeper into their subject area without committing to a PhD immediately. Graduates frequently progress to doctoral programs or industry positions.
Our research examines the fundamental aspects of heredity through genetics, genes, and genomes, covering areas from computational biology and genomic modeling to epigenetic controls and transcriptional processes. Numerous HDD researchers engage in eukaryotic genome studies (including next-generation sequencing, whole genome sequencing, and methylation analysis) and gene expression modulation. Current investigations address critical issues in epigenetic mechanisms (ED, AB, GMc) and transcriptional control (IAH, AP) across animal systems. Studies also explore the role of transcription factors in cellular differentiation, gene regulation, and oncogenesis (IAH, SW).
