Research-focused Master's degrees provide valuable preparation for various careers involving research components, particularly in commercial fields where a PhD isn't mandatory. These programs also serve as an excellent trial period for students contemplating doctoral studies, helping them determine if pursuing a PhD aligns with their goals. Additionally, they offer an important pathway for aspiring PhD candidates whose current academic credentials may not meet doctoral program requirements.
Dental education scholarship is expanding strategically, with the School of Dentistry pioneering numerous educational advancements worth exploring. Our initiative fosters an evidence-based, reflective approach to dental training, concentrating on: curriculum design, effective assessment and feedback methods for learners at different stages, modern interpretations of dental professionalism, collaborative practice advantages, leadership development, admissions criteria, and defining characteristics of accomplished dentists. Several doctoral candidates have contributed to this work through their PhD projects. We actively engage undergraduate researchers (with proper consent and ethical clearance) alongside graduate scholars. One current doctoral project examines admissions predictors for the Dental Surgery program and their relationship with academic performance, analyzing data from both current students and alumni to identify potential correlations.
