Pursuing an MSc by Research offers a valuable chance to enhance your intellectual capabilities, research expertise, and scholarly focus in a specific discipline. This 12-month program (or 24 months part-time) centers entirely on a research project, differing from taught Masters degrees that include graded coursework alongside research components. Under faculty guidance, you'll dedicate yourself to designing, executing, and documenting your research. You'll receive supervision from at least two academic staff members and may have opportunities to publish your findings.
This research team specializes in assembly-based methods for creating innovative functional materials. Nature demonstrates that highly structured materials - from crystalline substances like salt to complex biological systems such as DNA, proteins, cellular membranes, and even hierarchically organized bone structures - often emerge through the self-organization of smaller components. The characteristics of these building blocks determine their interactions and resulting assemblies. By mimicking these natural processes, our work explores assembly mechanisms across molecular and mesoscopic scales. Our team employs cutting-edge facilities to perform significant research through various specialized centers.
