This one-year program involves independent research rather than formal coursework, culminating in a thesis based on your findings. Much like a PhD, you'll work with a supervisor specializing in your chosen discipline. The MSc by Research enhances both academic and practical abilities, serving as an ideal pathway for those wanting to delve deeper into their field without committing to a doctoral program. Many graduates progress to PhD studies or industry roles.
Skeletal muscle plays crucial roles in movement, breathing, and metabolic processes, yet its adaptations to exercise and disease remain incompletely understood. Our studies examine muscle structure and performance through diverse methods, from analyzing molecular processes in excitation-contraction coupling to evaluating whole-body functional capacity. We explore muscular components like vascular networks and fiber types, along with neural pathways connecting the central nervous system to muscle tissue. Our work addresses various muscle-related disorders including fatigue, muscle wasting/growth disorders, malignant hyperthermia, statin-induced myopathy, and cardiac dysfunction, with particular attention to how exercise, diet, and medications influence these conditions.
