The Master of Philosophy degree is granted upon completion of a substantial thesis (approximately 200 pages or 60,000 words). Examiners must confirm that your work demonstrates the ability to conduct research and produce scholarly work of publishable quality that meets peer-review standards, typically achievable within two to three years of full-time study (or four to six years for part-time study). Additionally, you must show comprehensive knowledge in your research field. This program is ideal for candidates with two years of research funding.
Our research focuses on addressing social justice and citizenship challenges across local and global contexts, considering historical, current, and future perspectives. As societies grow more diverse while facing urban inequalities and climate change disparities, we pioneer collaborative research with civil society groups and communities to combat discrimination, injustice, and disempowerment, striving for global equity. We maintain active research partnerships ranging from small NGOs to governmental agencies, supported by funding from prestigious national and international sources including UK research councils, the European Union, the British Academy, and the Leverhulme Trust.
