The Master of Philosophy degree is granted upon completion of a substantial thesis (typically 200 pages or 60,000 words). Examiners must confirm that your work demonstrates the ability to conduct research and/or scholarship at a publishable standard that would withstand peer review, achievable within two to three years of full-time study (or four to six years part-time). Additionally, you'll need to show comprehensive knowledge in your research field. This program is ideal for candidates with two years of research funding.
Our geomorphology research covers diverse areas including soil erosion, sediment transport in hillslopes and rivers, peatland dynamics, and 3D landscape modeling. We primarily focus on UK uplands and global arctic/alpine watersheds. These high-altitude regions face threats from climate change and human activities like land and water management, while simultaneously providing crucial ecosystem services and being prone to natural hazards. They're also key areas for implementing natural flood mitigation strategies.
