Throughout this course, you'll examine how theatrical techniques can be harnessed to foster social transformation. It enables you to refine your craft with particular emphasis on the facilitator's role in community settings. Hands-on learning opportunities arise through workshops and research-driven practice, complemented by mentorship from seasoned professionals. The curriculum exposes students to various applied theater methodologies, spanning Theater in Education, Refugee and Asylum Seeker Theater, Intergenerational Theater, and Development Theater.
Beyond practical work, you'll analyze contemporary discussions, controversies, and theories surrounding applied theater across sectors like education, healthcare, community development, and criminal justice. You'll develop a nuanced perspective on ethical considerations, professional boundaries, and assessment methods, while mastering effective workshop and project design strategies. A fundamental component involves intensive facilitation training, beginning during orientation and continuing with personalized guidance from specialists in socially engaged theater. Prominent practitioners will also conduct regular sessions to impart their knowledge, methodologies, and field experiences.
