This program will help you master Japanese language skills while deepening your understanding of Japan and East Asia. You'll examine the region's culture, history, political landscape, and economic systems, along with its international relations. Alongside rigorous language training, you'll achieve fluency in Japanese. Instruction starts at beginner level, though we can adjust for students with prior Japanese knowledge.

Core courses throughout the program will enhance your Japanese abilities while offering multidisciplinary perspectives on East Asia. You'll explore subjects like regional politics, economic systems, religious traditions, cultural identities, and the modern histories of China and Japan. A year abroad at one of our partner universities will further develop your language proficiency through immersion in Japanese daily life.
