Recognized by both the Chartered Institute for Archaeology and University Archaeology UK, the MSci Archaeology program emphasizes hands-on fieldwork as its foundation, serving as the perfect launchpad for a professional archaeology career. This multidisciplinary degree combines practical training with academic study, equipping graduates with valuable transferable skills such as critical thinking, effective communication, and collaborative teamwork. Students begin their fieldwork experience from the very first week, participating in actual archaeological excavations. Throughout the program, learners analyze diverse artifacts ranging from ancient human remains and Paleolithic tools to Anglo-Saxon ornaments and contemporary DNA findings. Beyond classroom instruction, participants complete annual placements either domestically or internationally, contributing to genuine excavations, making discoveries, and supporting innovative research initiatives. Alumni have participated in notable digs at Wiltshire's Avebury and Stonehenge, Orkney's Neolithic sites, and Cambridgeshire's Anglo-Saxon burial grounds, among others. During their fourth year, MSci students assume supervisory responsibilities, gaining firsthand experience in archaeological project management while conducting substantial independent research, frequently incorporating original field or lab work. Combining theoretical knowledge, practical abilities, and extensive fieldwork, the MSci Archaeology program provides exceptional preparation for aspiring archaeology professionals.
