UCLan boasts cutting-edge facilities in tribotechnology for surface analysis, friction and wear testing, and lubrication evaluation, along with prestigious global partnerships. Tribology, fundamentally the science of interacting moving surfaces, encompasses friction, wear, and lubrication research while increasingly exploring surface adhesion and static surface transformations. This discipline profoundly impacts everyday life by influencing economic, environmental, and performance factors in both natural and engineered systems. Our research spans multiple engineering applications through core tribotechnology themes. UCLan specializes in: Active tribology ("tribotronics"), Bio-tribology, Condition monitoring, Fluid film technology, Surface measurement, and Surface engineering. Housed in the Jost Institute for Tribotechnology, researchers utilize advanced equipment for surface characterization, friction analysis, and lubrication studies while collaborating with international laboratories to pioneer innovative research.
