Chemical engineering utilizes scientific principles to develop, build, and manage systems that transform basic materials into essential consumer goods. This includes food and beverages, medications, agricultural nutrients, power sources, and combustible fuels.
During your initial year, you'll participate in process safety instruction, featuring trips to CATCH - among the UK's premier training centers. Here, you'll gain hands-on experience as a chemical engineer, working with actual machinery and protocols to recognize potential workplace dangers. On campus, our virtual control room lets you monitor a live 3D model of an industrial chemical facility.
Major industry leaders like Croda, Cristal, INEOS, Vivergo, and BP Acetyls sponsor our third-year design initiative, presenting awards for outstanding projects.
Beyond our standard three-year program, we provide extended four- and five-year alternatives. Options include an incorporated work placement or an integrated Masters degree (MEng), or both. Similar to all our engineering programs, Chemical Engineering begins with a shared foundational year, allowing you to transfer to a different specialization in your second year if desired.
