Chemical engineering utilizes scientific principles to develop, build, and manage systems that transform basic materials into essential consumer goods. This includes food and beverages, medications, agricultural nutrients, power sources, and combustible materials.

During your initial year, you'll participate in process safety instruction, featuring trips to CATCH - among the UK's premier training centers. There, you'll gain hands-on experience mimicking a chemical engineer's work environment, employing actual machinery and protocols to recognize potential occupational risks. On campus, our virtual control room lets you monitor a live 3D model of an industrial chemical facility.

Our third-year design initiative receives backing from leading industry corporations. Major sponsors like Croda, Cristal, INEOS, Vivergo, and BP Acetyls have not only supported this program but also recognized outstanding projects with awards.

Beyond our standard three-year program, we provide extended four- and five-year alternatives. Options include an incorporated work placement, a combined Master's degree (MEng), or both. Similar to all our engineering programs, Chemical Engineering begins with a shared foundational year, allowing you the flexibility to change to another engineering discipline in your second year if desired.
