Chemical engineering utilizes scientific principles to develop, build, and manage systems that transform basic materials into essential consumer goods. This includes food and beverages, medications, agricultural nutrients, power sources, and combustible materials.
During your initial year, you'll participate in process safety instruction, including field trips to CATCH, among the UK's premier training centers. There, you'll gain hands-on experience with industrial equipment and protocols, learning to recognize potential workplace hazards. On campus, our virtual control room lets you monitor a dynamic 3D model of an operational chemical facility.
Our third-year capstone project receives backing from industry leaders like Croda, Cristal, INEOS, Vivergo, and BP Acetyls, who recognize outstanding work with awards.
Beyond the standard three-year program, we provide extended four- and five-year alternatives. Options include an industrial placement year, an integrated Master's degree (MEng), or both. Similar to all our engineering programs, Chemical Engineering shares foundational coursework in the first year, allowing flexibility to change specializations in your second year if desired.
