As one of the UK's longest-established Drama departments, we've pioneered the scholarly exploration of theatre and performance. At Hull, you don't just study theatre theory - you gain hands-on experience by creating productions yourself.
Our university maintains a deep dedication to the performing arts. Studying Drama here means becoming part of a vibrant artistic collective.
You'll become part of a tight-knit community that performs, innovates, connects, and interacts with diverse audiences. While honing your skills in your chosen theatrical discipline, you'll work in exceptional, historically significant Grade II-listed venues.
Beyond examining performance theory, you'll gain practical experience through collaborative projects and ensemble work. We train you to become a versatile theatre practitioner while nurturing your passion for specific aspects of drama - whether acting, design, technical production, writing, directing, or theatre education.
You'll enjoy privileged use of our Gulbenkian Centre: a custom-designed theatre complex with specialized studios and workshop spaces. Weekly opportunities allow you to create diverse theatrical works - from traditional to avant-garde, including digital, educational, and community-engaged performances. The program includes participation in at least two major productions annually, culminating in forming your own theatre company during your final year.
