A Master's by Research (MSc) offers a one-year (full-time) research-focused degree program with minimal structured coursework. This condensed format provides an opportunity to investigate a specialized subject area without committing to a longer PhD program.
Unlike traditional Master's programs, research-based students select a defined project area and enjoy more autonomy in their academic work.
During the initial months, you'll collaborate with your supervisor to establish an approved research plan for your studies.
Throughout your research journey, you'll enhance your investigative abilities through specialized training workshops and academic events. The structured program blends advanced subject knowledge, research techniques, and significant project work in your chosen discipline.
You'll be assigned a primary supervisor, typically supported by a team of up to three advisors, to guide your research progress.
Upon completing your investigation, you'll document your results in a concise thesis (usually under 25,000 words, not counting supplementary materials) for formal evaluation.
After successfully finishing the program and earning your degree, you may choose to continue your academic journey by pursuing a full doctoral (PhD) research degree if you find the experience rewarding.
