A Master of Arts (MA) by Research enables students to pursue a one-year (full-time) or two-year (part-time) academic investigation with minimal structured coursework. This format provides an opportunity to examine a specialized subject area within a more condensed timeframe compared to comprehensive PhD programs.
Our research-based programs offer flexible study options including full-time, part-time, and select distance learning pathways.
Unlike taught Master's programs, research Master's candidates focus on a defined project while enjoying greater autonomy in their academic work.
Students collaborate with their supervisor during the initial months to establish an approved research plan. Throughout the investigation, participants enhance their research capabilities through specialized training sessions and academic events.
Each candidate receives primary supervision from a dedicated advisor, typically supported by a team of up to three academic mentors to provide project guidance.
The research culminates in a concise thesis of approximately 25,000 words for evaluation. We welcome practice-based proposals that may incorporate portfolio submissions, with supervisory input determining the balance between practical and written components.
Successful graduates earn their degree and may choose to advance to doctoral studies (PhD) if they wish to continue their research journey.
