A Master's by Research (MA) offers a one-year full-time or two-year part-time research program with minimal structured coursework. This format provides a focused exploration of a research topic in less time than a PhD. Unlike taught master's programs, research MA candidates select a specific project and enjoy greater autonomy in their work. During the initial months, you'll collaborate with your supervisor to establish an approved research plan. Throughout your project, you can enhance your research abilities through specialized training sessions. A primary supervisor, often supported by a team of up to three advisors, will guide your work. The program culminates in a 25,000-word thesis that undergoes formal assessment. We welcome practice-based projects involving portfolio submissions, which include written components - your supervisory team will advise on the balance between practical and written elements. Successful completion grants your degree, potentially serving as a stepping stone to doctoral studies (PhD) if you wish to pursue further research.
