This BEng Honours in Automotive Engineering with Motorsport offers hands-on motorsport experience from year one, including the chance to participate in designing, constructing, and racing a single-seater vehicle for the UK Formula Student Competition. The curriculum incorporates current industry trends, guided by a Motor Industry Advisory Panel featuring experts from leading automotive firms. Motorsport serves as both thrilling entertainment and a crucial driver of automotive innovation, pushing engineers to utilize cutting-edge technologies for high-performance vehicle design. While sharing many modules with our standard automotive engineering program, this course uniquely covers aerodynamics for high-speed vehicles and advanced engine design, testing, and calibration. A key feature is the opportunity to contribute to a Student Formula car project.

Career opportunities are outstanding. With strong industry connections as one of the UK's premier motorsport institutions, we offer excellent placement and job prospects. Nearly every Formula One team employs University of Hertfordshire alumni in their design departments. Graduates typically secure roles in design, production, or testing at major automotive companies worldwide, or with specialized vehicle safety consultancies. Others choose to pursue postgraduate studies in automotive fields at our university.
