Our BA in History and Philosophy allows you to explore two disciplines that provide valuable perspectives on the world. Our inclusive History program covers diverse cultures and identities, with a particular emphasis on social history and ordinary people's experiences. The first-year curriculum examines key themes like belief systems, magical practices and medical history, liberation movements, Africa's global connections, and US history from the Founding Fathers to modern times. Our faculty members are all engaged researchers, offering you the chance to participate in original scholarship within our supportive, highly-regarded academic environment. Both subjects emphasize critical thinking skills - History teaches you to evaluate primary sources and historiographical debates, while Philosophy trains you to assess arguments and form your own positions on fundamental questions.
