We strive to become the global leader in public research and education, dedicated to enhancing health outcomes by studying disease patterns in populations and assessing the efficacy of public health initiatives.
Research in Public Health is crucial for examining how biological, social, behavioral, economic, cultural, and environmental elements influence wellbeing. Our work bridges medical, environmental, and social sciences, providing students with exceptional interdisciplinary training. The emergence of vast datasets from healthcare systems, environmental sources, public services, and private organizations is transforming public health methodologies. For the first time in history, we can track how health is developed, preserved, or compromised over time, while also measuring the effects of health improvement strategies and protective policies.
Postgraduate research students in public health benefit from training programs offered by the Colleges of Medical, Veterinary and Life Sciences (MVLS) and the College of Social Science (CoSS). This guarantees that graduates acquire versatile skills applicable to careers in academia, government, private enterprises, and nonprofit organizations. Each research project is customized based on the specialized knowledge of principal investigators in public health and the Institute of Health and Wellbeing. Our supervisors employ diverse methodologies to tackle complex challenges, ranging from sophisticated statistical modeling and data integration to longitudinal epidemiology and advanced meta-analysis, complemented by qualitative research techniques and policy document examination. We maintain strong collaborations with government bodies, the NHS, local authorities, other public institutions, and nonprofit organizations.
