Statistics involves gathering, processing, visualizing, and making sense of data. External examiners consistently praise our programs for their varied project work. The MSci degree with work placement lets you blend academic study with practical experience as a statistical analyst at one of our partner organizations, building essential professional skills. The MacLaurin Society (MacSoc), named after Scottish mathematician Colin MacLaurin, serves as the university's Mathematics and Statistics Society. Active since the 1950s, it fosters a welcoming community for School students. Our degrees offer the flexibility to pursue combined programs with numerous subjects university-wide. Popular combinations feature Mathematics, Computing Science, Economics, and Finance, though students have recently paired statistics with Management, Psychology, and Geography. Note that some combined Honors courses may have scheduling limitations.
Alumni develop statistical, computational, quantitative, and communication abilities valuable across medicine, education, transportation, agriculture, engineering, and economics. Career paths include roles as quality engineers, actuaries, accountants, credit risk analysts, clinical statisticians, statistical programmers, teachers, and operations researchers. Many also pursue advanced degrees.
