The School of Mathematics & Statistics brings together globally renowned research in pure and applied mathematics and statistics, spanning fields like mathematical biology, fluid dynamics, geometric studies, and environmental statistics. As one of the UK's largest institutions in its field, it boasts a substantial team of academic staff and postgraduate researchers. Our research spans diverse domains within Pure and Applied Mathematics, with overlapping interests fostering a dynamic intellectual environment. Internationally recognized for excellence, our faculty maintain active collaborations with mathematicians worldwide, while visiting scholars frequently join us in Glasgow. The school hosts multiple seminar series featuring distinguished speakers from across the globe, alongside regular postgraduate presentations that help PhD candidates hone their communication skills. Research specializations include: Algebra, Mathematical Analysis, Continuum Mechanics, Geometric Topology, Geophysical & Astrophysical Fluid Dynamics, Integrable Systems and Mathematical Physics, Mathematical Biology, and Number Theory.
