This program offers comprehensive preparation for careers in education policy. The instructional approach focuses on practical applications and cultivates critical thinking skills by examining real-world challenges.
Drawing from sociology, political science, and economics, this interdisciplinary curriculum delivers a thorough theoretical foundation for analyzing education as a key element of public policy. The program equally emphasizes both qualitative and quantitative research methods, which students apply to actual policy scenarios with guidance from expert instructors. Teaching and evaluation approaches prioritize critical analysis of complex arguments, equipping students to make value-based decisions when empirical analysis reaches its limits. Developed by the Robert Owen Centre for Educational Change, this program responds to growing contemporary challenges in education policy, especially those concerning equity, health, social welfare, and economic development.
Students will examine the reciprocal relationship between educational equity and social equity. Since educational disparities don't exist in isolation, the program critically evaluates how education policy can address broader societal inequalities. Building on international postgraduate traditions in education policy studies, this program offers fresh perspectives through its concentrated focus on equity issues.
