This Master's program provides a chance to examine ancient civilizations through a diverse, cross-disciplinary lens, spanning from the Near East to Northwestern Europe. Rooted in Classical studies, it incorporates contributions from Archaeology, Egyptology, Celtic and Gaelic studies, as well as Theology and Religious Studies.
The curriculum heavily utilizes the distinctive collections housed in the University of Glasgow's Hunterian Museum, Kelvin Hall, and the university library's Special Collections. You can customize essay and dissertation topics to align with your academic passions. As program director Dr. Angela McDonald notes, "Our learners don't merely read about antiquity - they physically engage with historical artifacts during our hands-on sessions." The instructional approach fosters object-based research, with multiple ongoing investigative projects. Additionally, you can begin studying an ancient language (Greek, Latin, Egyptian, Hebrew, early Gaelic, or Welsh) as a beginner or advance your existing skills.
