Optical imaging and sensing serves as a foundation for scientific exploration in Physics, Engineering, Environmental Science, and Medical/Life Sciences. Key applications range from diverse medical and biological imaging techniques to environmental monitoring, surveillance systems, and precision measurement tools. Advanced Imaging and Sensing (AIS) drives breakthroughs in fundamental physics, including gravitational-wave detection and Higgs boson discovery. Its societal impact is evident through increasingly sophisticated imaging technologies integrated into smartphones and vehicles. This MSc program offers interdisciplinary education for aspiring AIS researchers, combining instruction from Physics & Astronomy, Engineering, and Computing Science departments. Students develop expertise in sensing fundamentals, device design, system engineering, and data processing while completing a specialized research project that provides excellent preparation for doctoral studies or industrial R&D careers.
Instruction comes from leading specialists, allowing students to engage with Glasgow University's cutting-edge imaging research.

Qualification Requirements

A 2:1 Honours degree in Physics, Theoretical Physics, Astrophysics, Electronic Engineering or related subject.
We will also consider applicants with a 2:1 or above in Mathematics, Computer Science, Materials Science or Engineering subjects, provided you are able to demonstrate an enthusiasm and aptitude for science and technology pertinent to sensing and imaging.
Applicants with a 2:2 in these subject areas may be considered on an individual basis, if there is evidence of substantial relevant work experience.
