The Master's in Criminology by research enables you to deepen your understanding of societal harms and conflicts that become criminalized, the consequences of such criminalization, and alternative approaches that could foster more equitable and secure communities. You'll join an active criminology research network that nurtures skilled, theory-driven researchers committed to public discourse on crime and justice.
This program equips you for research careers or PhD studies in criminology and criminal justice. It holds recognition for an Economic and Social Research Council 13 award via the Scottish Doctoral Training Centre. You'll have opportunities to connect with justice-focused professionals, including those working with government agencies, NGOs, individuals with justice system experience, and reform advocates.
The curriculum includes comprehensive training in both traditional and innovative research methodologies, spanning quantitative, qualitative, mixed-method, and emerging approaches like digital and creative research techniques. You'll explore novel theoretical frameworks and interdisciplinary perspectives for examining crime and justice systems.
