This program offers a comprehensive foundation in social science research methodologies, theories, and modern public policy analysis. It's perfect for individuals aiming to pursue a PhD or careers in public, third-sector, or private organizations. By examining public policy concepts and applications in Glasgow's urban environment, students directly engage with current critical policy challenges and innovative solutions. An optional London field trip offers valuable exposure to urban development complexities through visits to prominent real estate, planning, and regeneration initiatives. Participants will interact with top industry experts and policymakers driving major urban projects, with past excursions including landmarks like The Shard, Olympic Park, Crossrail, and Battersea Power Station.
The curriculum establishes robust preparation for advanced public policy research, whether for careers in public service or nonprofit sectors, or particularly for PhD studies. Graduates will satisfy all UK Economic and Social Research Council and Social Sciences Graduate School research training prerequisites for doctoral candidates.
