If you're passionate about literature, linguistics, history, or cultural studies, we offer an encouraging setting for advanced academic exploration.
Our programs feature diverse courses and expert guidance aligned with faculty research specialties. Potential research areas include: contemporary and ancient Celtic languages, literatures, and traditions, with particular focus on modern Scottish Gaelic and Irish linguistics, Scottish Gaelic literary works from the 18th to 21st centuries, Gaelic language studies, medieval Celtic texts, early Irish and Gaelic, Middle Welsh literature, manuscript traditions of Celtic regions, Celtic artistic heritage, and Scottish toponymy. Our program fosters interdisciplinary collaboration, with faculty and students regularly working alongside researchers in Archaeology, Scottish History, and English Language departments. As a key component of the Centre for Scottish and Celtic Studies, we maintain an inclusive research community, while also contributing to the Centre for Medieval and Renaissance Studies.
The Master of Letters (Research) program involves rigorous specialized study culminating in original scholarly contributions to your chosen field.

Our regular standard of admission is at least an Upper Second Class Honours degree (2:1), although candidates will usually also have completed or be undertaking a Masters qualification.
IELTS - 7.0 with no sub-test under 7.0.
TOEFL - 100 with minimum R 24, L 24, S 23, W 27.
