This Master's program provides an in-depth exploration of film and television through critical analysis. Our long-running curriculum delivers comprehensive knowledge of Film & Television Studies methodologies while developing essential research capabilities for higher academic pursuits. Situated in Glasgow - a major UK media hub - students learn at the Gilmorehill Center, which features a dedicated cinema and extensive multimedia archives. The center serves as headquarters for the prestigious Screen journal and hosts its annual conference, drawing top global scholars in screen studies. This degree serves as excellent preparation for doctoral research while fostering connections with Glasgow's creative industries through industry visits and expert talks. Our progressive curriculum addresses equality, diversity and inclusion, actively working to transform historical imbalances in screen studies. Notably, the program gives television equal academic weight to film - a rarity among UK institutions. Students benefit from networking opportunities with peers in Film Curation and Filmmaking programs also based at Gilmorehill. The curriculum enables specialized investigation of screen media while examining evolving research methods, defining the discipline's core while addressing its transformation through emerging technologies and viewing practices.
This degree offers strong preparation for academic careers, with dedicated PhD application and funding support. While ideal for research pathways, graduates pursue diverse media careers including film education, festival coordination, arts management, and television research roles across public and private sectors.
