This program prepares you to become a secondary school Technology Education teacher, qualified to instruct practical subjects, graphic communication, design and manufacturing, and engineering science. After four years, you can graduate with a Bachelor of Design and Technology Education (Honours) including Teaching Qualification (Secondary), or continue for a fifth year to earn the MDTechEd. This comprehensive five-year course enables students to build the extensive knowledge, skills, and competencies required to deliver high-quality Technology Education. Notably, this is Scotland's sole integrated Masters in teaching technology, accredited by the General Teaching Council for Scotland (GTCS). Graduates meet the requirements for provisional GTCS registration.
This integrated Masters program, starting at the undergraduate level, enhances knowledge, skills, and research in secondary school technology education. While the full Masters component spans five years, students qualify to teach after completing year four. This teaching experience enriches their fifth-year research and studies. The curriculum blends theoretical and research-based learning with hands-on classroom practice.

Alumni of the Bachelor of Design & Technology Secondary Education program have secured roles as secondary school technology teachers and college lecturers with strong success rates. Graduates are assured one year of probationary teaching employment, and the teaching profession provides diverse career advancement opportunities. Many graduates have pursued additional postgraduate studies in Education and related fields.
