The Medical School fosters and maintains outstanding achievements in both education and research within a welcoming, encouraging, and dynamic setting. Our medical alumni are widely respected for the comprehensive nature of their undergraduate training and their professional capabilities. Students will develop hands-on clinical expertise across healthcare facilities in Western Scotland, such as our recently upgraded medical education center at Glasgow Royal Infirmary and the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital, featuring dedicated learning spaces, instructional labs, and a cutting-edge clinical skills center.
Our forward-thinking curriculum employs diverse teaching methods, including small-group sessions, problem-based learning, lectures, vocational and clinical training, laboratory work, and digital education. Clinical exposure begins in the first year. The MBChB program utilizes a spiral learning approach, where topics are revisited throughout the curriculum with progressively greater depth and clinical relevance. Students complete two elective study periods and can choose from more than 20 intercalated degree options, providing opportunities to explore personal interests in greater detail. The acclaimed Wolfson Medical School Building features extended library access and top-tier clinical training facilities. With strong connections to the Postgraduate Deanery, we ensure a seamless transition from undergraduate studies to postgraduate training, preparing skilled graduates for the Foundation Training program, advanced specialization, and modern medical practice.
Career pathways in medicine span hospital-based disciplines like surgery to community-focused fields such as general practice. The majority of our graduates begin their medical careers within NHS hospitals across Scotland, while others pursue opportunities elsewhere in the UK, including England and Northern Ireland.
