Spanish ranks as the world's second most spoken language and holds official status in over 20 nations. Glasgow's faculty addresses diverse subject areas, allowing students to collaborate with native Spanish speakers from various regions. The School of Modern Languages & Cultures provides degree programs in French, German, Italian, Portuguese, Russian, and Spanish. Students can pursue French, German, Italian, or Spanish as standalone majors or combine them with other disciplines through joint degrees. Portuguese and Russian are exclusively offered as joint degree options, requiring pairing with another subject. Optional courses include Catalan, Mandarin Chinese, Czech, and Polish, which students can integrate into their studies. First-year students typically enroll in either Beginner courses (for those with no prior experience or only National 5/GCSE-level knowledge) or Non-Beginner courses (for students with recent Higher/A-level equivalent qualifications).
Language program alumni pursue careers across multiple sectors such as: media, arts institutions, education/teaching, civil service fast-track programs, finance, administration, public relations
and diplomatic services.
Employers highly appreciate the adaptable skills developed through language studies. Graduating from the School of Modern Languages & Cultures provides students with fresh perspectives on global affairs.
