This four-year undergraduate program, endorsed by Scotland's General Teaching Council, meets the most rigorous quality benchmarks. Throughout this course, you'll not only master teaching techniques but also gain deep insights into child development and learning processes. The curriculum includes four specialized school placements within Dumfries and Galloway schools, each targeting different primary levels with subject-specific concentrations.
The program explores diverse teaching methods, educational theories, and evaluation approaches tailored for primary education. You'll learn curriculum planning, student assessment techniques, and self-evaluation methods while gaining hands-on experience with school operations, resources, and creative teaching strategies. Elective options allow you to broaden your expertise in primary curriculum subjects. A mandatory six-week teaching placement occurs each May-June period.
Recognized worldwide by the General Teaching Council for Scotland, this qualification opens doors to teaching positions across Scotland and internationally, including destinations like Ireland, the Middle East, and Australia. Beyond classroom teaching, graduates pursue leadership positions, education-related specialties, or advanced academic research. After three years, students may opt for an MA in Primary Educational Studies (non-teaching qualification) suitable for educational support roles.
