The Portuguese program focuses on exploring the languages, literature, and cultures of Brazil, Portugal, and other Portuguese-speaking regions. At Glasgow, students engage in small-group learning with native speakers from both Portugal and Brazil, benefiting from the program's longstanding partnership with the Instituto Camões. Our Language Resources Centre provides comprehensive access to top-quality audiovisual, digital, and print materials.
The School of Modern Languages & Cultures provides degree options in French, German, Italian, Portuguese, Russian, and Spanish. While French, German, Italian, and Spanish can be pursued as single subjects or combined with other disciplines, Portuguese and Russian are exclusively offered as joint degrees paired with another field of study.
Graduates in languages enter diverse professions such as media, arts administration, education/teaching, civil service fast-tracking, finance, management, public relations,
and diplomatic careers.
Employers highly appreciate the adaptable skills developed through language studies. Earning a degree from the School of Modern Languages & Cultures offers students a unique global perspective.
