Latin focuses on mastering the Latin language, exploring its literature, and understanding Roman culture. As part of your studies, you'll have the chance to visit Italian archaeological sites and museums. Your starting level depends on prior experience—beginners or those with some Latin knowledge join level 1, while students with strong Higher or A-level results may begin at level 2.
The curriculum builds a solid grammatical and vocabulary base, progressing to reading authentic Latin texts. You'll develop skills to interpret basic Latin writings and translate them into English while expanding your linguistic knowledge to tackle more complex literary works. The program includes analyzing diverse authors, examining literary and historical contexts, and refining critical thinking to craft well-supported essays. Honors students can spend a minimum of three weeks (typically after year 3) exploring Italy's archaeological treasures, with financial aid available for Single Honours participants.
Recent graduates have pursued careers in education, government, administration, library sciences, archival work, and museum curation.
