Studying Greek encompasses mastering the classical Greek language, exploring its literature, and understanding ancient Greek civilization. Honors students can spend a minimum of three weeks (typically during the summer after third year) touring archaeological sites and museums in Greece, with financial assistance available for Single Honors students. Third-year options include studying abroad in North America, Australia, New Zealand, or Europe. The curriculum includes works by Homer, Greek poets, Athenian playwrights, orators, historians, and philosophers like Plato, alongside studies in Greek political history, society, philosophy, religion, and art. Students with strong A-level results may begin at level 2, focusing on translation skills for both prepared and unseen texts while reinforcing grammar fundamentals. The program introduces continuous literary texts from oratory, drama, history, and epic poetry, while honing analytical abilities through essays and commentaries. A solid grammatical and vocabulary foundation enables students to read authentic ancient Greek passages and translate basic texts. Recent graduates have pursued careers in education, civil service, administration, libraries, archives, museums, and galleries.
