This program explores cinema and television as powerful influences in contemporary culture, offering both entertainment and education.
It serves as excellent training for roles across media, arts, and cultural sectors. Recent alumni have secured positions like location assistant for Scottish film productions, researcher at the British Film Institute, and internships with Park Circus film distribution.
Our established graduates work with major media organizations including the BBC and STV, pursuing careers as arts administrators, journalists, and media scholars.
The first two years establish theoretical, critical, and historical foundations. During Honours, students blend core and elective courses for specialized study while examining how practical work deepens media comprehension. Required courses Screen Analysis and Screen Histories teach film/TV analytical methods and historical contexts.
Options may cover specific eras and regions (such as post-war Japanese cinema,
Scottish film/TV), genres (including animation, film noir, melodrama), production theory/practice (like audiovisual criticism, screenwriting), and thematic studies (such as acting for screen, children's programming).
