This program explores cinema and television as powerful influences in contemporary culture, offering both entertainment and education.
It serves as excellent training for roles across media, arts, and cultural sectors. Recent alumni have secured positions like location assistant for Scottish film productions, researcher at the British Film Institute, and internships with Park Circus film distribution.
Our established graduates hold prominent positions in creative industries, working with major broadcasters like BBC and STV, or pursuing careers as arts administrators, journalists, and media scholars.
The first two years build foundational knowledge through theoretical, critical, and historical studies. During Honours years, students blend core and elective courses for specialized learning, including practical components that deepen media comprehension. Required courses Screen Analysis and Screen Histories teach film/TV analytical methods and historical contexts.
Elective options may cover regional cinema (such as postwar Japanese films or Scottish productions), genres (including animation, film noir, and melodrama), production techniques (like screenwriting or audio-visual criticism), and thematic studies (such as children's programming or acting for screen).
