This program explores cinema and television as powerful influences in contemporary culture, offering both entertainment and education.
It serves as excellent training for diverse roles across media, arts, and cultural sectors. Recent alumni have secured positions like location assistant for Scottish film productions, researcher at the British Film Institute, and intern at Park Circus film distribution.
Our established graduates hold prominent positions in creative industries, working with major broadcasters like BBC and STV, or pursuing careers as arts administrators, journalists, and media scholars.
The first two years establish theoretical, critical, and historical foundations. During Honours years, students blend core and elective courses for specialized study, while examining how practical work deepens media comprehension. Required courses include Screen Analysis and Screen Histories, which develop film/TV analytical skills and historical perspectives.
Options may cover specific eras and regions (such as post-war Japanese cinema
or Scottish film/TV), genres (including animation, film noir, and melodrama), production theory/practice (like audiovisual criticism and screenwriting), and thematic studies (such as acting for screen or children's programming).
