Our English Literature program offers comprehensive exploration of literary studies, drawing on our distinguished faculty's expertise across diverse fields such as American literature, Irish studies, postcolonial works, critical theory, creative writing, and interdisciplinary connections with arts, media, and sciences. Students enjoy privileged access to our exceptional Hunterian and Library collections, featuring rare 18th- and 19th-century works, travel literature, illuminated manuscripts, and important author-specific archives.
The curriculum begins with poetry studies before progressing to narrative fiction. Throughout the program, students hone their abilities in critical analysis, creative composition, and literary debate while discovering how performance enriches textual understanding. Course materials span various historical periods and cultural traditions, with additional options to cultivate creative writing skills in both poetry and fiction.

Advanced entry
Applicants who achieve exceptional grades in their Advanced Highers, A-levels or International Baccalaureate may be considered for advanced entry, meaning that an Honours degree can be completed in three years instead of the normal four years, or four years for five-year integrated Masters programmes.
