Archaeology explores humanity's past by examining artifacts, ancient sites, structures, and environments.
Students can acquire hands-on excavation experience both in the UK and internationally. Recent
participants have joined digs throughout Europe and the Middle East, spanning locations like the Baltic nations, Cyprus, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Iceland, Italy, and Portugal.
The curriculum strongly focuses on obtaining real-world heritage experience,
covering excavation methods and archaeology's societal contributions. We
organize both day trips and overnight excursions to historic locations, natural settings, museums, and other cultural sites.
Students may join ongoing faculty research initiatives involving site surveys, digs, archival work, and collection-based studies, while also securing internships at heritage institutions through our partner network. We additionally assist students in finding positions on European excavation teams.
Employers across diverse sectors—finance, legal, corporate, and hospitality—appreciate the adaptable competencies gained through archaeology studies, including collaboration, hands-on troubleshooting, and analytical thinking.
Numerous alumni pursue careers in archaeology and heritage preservation with
public agencies, nonprofits, and cultural organizations in Scotland and worldwide,
such as the National Trust for Scotland, Historic Environment Scotland, Archaeology Scotland, the British Museum, National Museums of Scotland and Glasgow Life, alongside UK-based and international archaeological service firms like GUARD Archaeology Ltd.
