Archaeology explores how ancient civilizations engaged with their environment by examining artifacts, historical sites, and geographical contexts.
Students can acquire hands-on excavation experience both locally and internationally. Previous
participants have joined digs throughout Europe and the Middle East, spanning locations like the Baltic nations, Cyprus, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Iceland, Italy, and Portugal.
The curriculum strongly focuses on obtaining real-world heritage experience,
covering archaeological methods and promoting archaeology's societal value. We
organize both single-day and overnight trips to historical locations, natural settings, museums, and other cultural sites.
Participants can engage in ongoing faculty research initiatives involving field surveys, digs, archival studies, and collection-based work, while also securing internships at heritage institutions through our partner network. We additionally assist students in joining excavation teams throughout Europe.
Various industries, including finance, legal, corporate, and hospitality sectors, appreciate the adaptable competencies gained through archaeology studies, such as collaboration, hands-on troubleshooting, and evaluative thinking.
Numerous alumni pursue careers in archaeology and heritage preservation with
public institutions, nonprofit organizations, and cultural entities across Scotland and internationally,
including prominent organizations like the National Trust for Scotland, Historic Environment Scotland, Archaeology Scotland, the British Museum, National Museums of Scotland and Glasgow Life, as well as commercial archaeology firms operating globally such as GUARD Archaeology Ltd.
