Statistics involves gathering, processing, visualizing, and making sense of data. External examiners consistently praise our programs for their varied project work. The MSci degree with work placement lets you blend academic study with practical experience as a statistical analyst at one of our partner organizations, building essential professional skills. The MacLaurin Society (MacSoc), named after Scottish mathematician Colin MacLaurin, serves as the university's Mathematics and Statistics Society. Active since the 1950s, it fosters a welcoming community for School students. Our degrees offer notable flexibility, allowing combinations with numerous subjects across the University. Popular pairings include Mathematics with Computing Science, Economics, or Finance, though students have recently pursued joint degrees in Management, Psychology, and Geography. Note that some combined Honors courses may face scheduling limitations.
Our alumni develop statistical, computational, quantitative, and communication abilities valuable across sectors like healthcare, education, transportation, agriculture, engineering, and finance. They pursue diverse careers as quality engineers, actuaries, accountants, credit risk analysts, clinical statisticians, statistical programmers, educators, and operations researchers. Many also continue to graduate-level studies.
